50 Shades of Happiness

The Challenge

As Leadway approached its 50th anniversary, the moment carried both pride and pressure.

Five decades of service excellence had earned the brand respect, yet insurance in Nigeria still lived behind a wall of mistrust and misunderstanding. Religious beliefs, financial anxiety, and years of limited awareness created a distance between Nigerians and the very protection they needed.

Leadway wanted the anniversary to stand for more than longevity. It needed to shift perception. It needed a way to speak to Nigerians in a language they recognised, through stories they understood, and with a tone that felt human.

The real challenge was simple to state but harder to solve:

Make insurance make sense.

The Strategy

We built a storytelling platform that brought insurance out of theory and into everyday life. The idea became 50 Shades of Happiness, a year-long editorial series written to show that happiness is not accidental; it is protected.

One new story each week for fifty weeks. Each one grounded in culture, current events, real experiences, and the small and large moments that shape the Nigerian journey.

The strategy focused on relevance and rhythm. The more readers recognised themselves in the stories, the more they understood the role insurance plays in sustaining what matters.

The Execution

We made BusinessDay and Punch the meeting point between Leadway and everyday Nigerians. Week after week, readers opened their papers to find a story that felt close to their lives. Some stories echoed the national mood. Others mirrored the quiet realities people rarely speak about. A change in the atmosphere, a financial worry, a family celebration, a moment of crisis, or the simple joy of getting through another week — each narrative held something familiar.

Each story offered a moment of understanding. It presented a familiar situation, uncovered the risks tucked inside everyday life, and connected that experience to the kind of protection insurance brings. Nothing felt heavy-handed. The message lived within the story in a way people could recognise and relate to.

As the weeks passed, the campaign found its rhythm. The tone felt warm, steady, and in tune with the everyday Nigerian experience. What started as a content plan became a conversation that met people where they were and stayed with them through a year defined by change.

The Outcome

People didn’t just read the stories. They responded to them. They called in with questions, looked for guidance, and asked how to protect the moments that mattered to them. Hundreds reached out directly from the articles, turning interest into real conversations with Leadway.

Some stories travelled even further. Media platforms picked them up on their own, sharing the content at no cost and widening the campaign’s reach in ways no one expected.

In a year filled with uncertainty, Leadway became a steady voice people could rely on.

What began as an anniversary campaign grew into something larger. It became a national moment of understanding. Insurance felt closer. More human. Easier to grasp. The stories helped shift perception, and Nigerians began to see insurance as a partner in the happiness they work hard to build.
